4 Tips to Decorate your Home on a Budget
When my fiance and I moved into our town home I knew that I wanted to begin decorating immediately, I mean that’s the fun part! The problem is, obviously we didn’t have the money to throw around to buy expensive decorations for our walls or vases for flowers; we now had a mortgage to pay. I was not going to have this stop me from decorating! Here are some tips I’ve found to help me decorate our home while not spending an arm and a leg.
1. Shop the Sales for Decor
During our home buying process, I was constantly online shopping. My fiance and I would send each other links to things CONSTANTLY. There were several things that I knew I wouldn’t pay more than X amount for, because I grew up in a household where my parents taught us how to save money. To me, I was excited to find an entire bathroom set that cost me less than $50! It took a lot of research to find the things we ended up purchasing, but it was well worth the time and saved us a lot of money.
2. Take Advantage of “Going out of Business” Sales
A big box store by our house was going out of business, so we took advantage of the opportunity to get EVERYTHING on sale! A big money saving tip I have is to never pay full price for anything, as much as you can help. Especially decorations and things you use on a daily basis. We bought a lot of wall decor for our kitchen and bathrooms at this store, which made HUGE improvements with making our house feel like a home.
3. Gift giving Holidays = JACKPOT!
Most people use gift giving holidays for asking for things for themselves. Not us anymore. What we asked for this Christmas? A NEW VACUUM! I know, super exciting. But we needed a new one, and we don’t need clothes NEARLY as much as we needed that vacuum.
4. Use Your Gift Cards for Your Home, Not You
After the holidays are over, we took all of our gift card money we had received and had a house shopping spree! We bought a ton of things we had on our Amazon Wishlist: a cast iron skillet, new curtains for our bedroom, another 12 inch pan, and a new mat for our puppy to eat on. All of these things are solid investments that we know we will use for years to come. If we have the money on our gift cards, why not use it???
You can make your home look less like a college dorm and more like an adult space for less money than you may think! In coming posts, I’ll share more of my tips and tricks for saving money on all things home.
