When my fiance and I moved in together, I brought along some of my favorite organizational tools. I told him we were going to hang them in our kitchen so that way we always know what’s going on. He looked at me like I was crazy. I’m not really sure why, he knew I was an organization lover WAY before deciding to move in with me.
I explained to him that at my parent’s house my mom used these things to keep everyone on track and to make sure we didn’t forget about anything. Of course he was still skeptical.
We’ve lived together for 6 months now, and we had to take down our “command center” for the first time last week to do paint touch up; I really don’t know how we made it through the week.
The amount of things that had to run through my brain in order to make sure I didn’t forget anything was CRAZY! And I noticed that my fiance forgot some things too… 😉
Maybe he DOES need a command center after all!
Since it’s just the two of us, ours isn’t as fancy as some people on Pinterest, and as lazy young adults, we really just want everything straight and to the point.
THIS IS OUR COMMAND CENTER!
In the middle is our beautiful calendar, which I decorate and redo each month. It has important dates on it, assignments that are due for my grad. school classes, all things we need to remember to do. I also color coordinate everything. This month my stuff is in green, my fiances stuff is in blue, and things we do together are in black. I HIGHLY recommend color coordinating. It’s great and really helps us stay organized. If you would like a calendar like this, I highly recommend this one, (it’s actually the same one my mom has!)
Our Mail Organizer:
To the left is our mail organizer; which really makes me feel adult to say. This was the last addition to our command center and it’s really great. It organizes our paperwork for us and keeps it off the counter (so our puppy can’t reach!). The mail organizer typically will hold any coupons we want to make sure to use (if they’re not already on the fridge), and gift cards we need to make sure we don’t forget about. This is the mail organizer we use, and it’s especially great because if you need to hang your keys. We have a key organizer already, but I wish we would have bought this sooner so we wouldn’t have had to get our key organizer!
Our Weekly Planner:
Originally I didn’t know how to use this. Now it’s essential to our command center. This is where we do all of our meal planning. I will be doing an entire blog post about how we meal plan eventually. Our house would be a disaster without our weekly organizer. You can find one like ours here; I HIGHLY recommend one, especially for all my lazy couples out there!
Our “Catch All” Basket:
This is something that I personally LOVE. I am a basket lover. Baskets make me so happy because you can throw anything in there and it looks organized (especially if it closes!). I’m sure at some point I’ll do an entire post on my love of baskets. This is a basket that we will throw anything random that would be otherwise on our kitchen counter taking up room. Every few days when I’m feeling EXTRA motivation I’ll go through the things in the basket and put them where they actually belong (which is usually in our office; but that’s for another post). Since starting the catch all basket, our kitchen looks so much cleaner and it makes my little organization freak heart happy! You can buy a pack of baskets here and use them throughout your home!
Our command center is truly the center of our home. It really keeps us organized and together! If you don’t have one I recommend putting something together (even if it’s as simple as ours!) just to keep everything in it’s place. Just because we’re lazy and young adults doesn’t mean we can’t stay organized and know when we need to do something!
–Send me pictures of your command centers! I would LOVE to see yours! I’m always adding to our decor and organization! If you love decor, check out my post on how to decorate your home on a budget!
–As always, go take a nap and have some cookies, you deserve it lazy girl!
